Glutes & hamstrings

Lift one kettlebell from the floor with a steady hip hinge. A useful foundation before learning the swing.

How to do it

  1. Straddle the bell

Place the kettlebell between your feet, standing about shoulder-width apart.

  2. Hinge and grip

Push hips back and bend knees enough to reach the handle with both hands, keeping your spine long.

  3. Stand through your hips

Brace, press through both feet and straighten hips and knees. Keep arms long and bell close.

  4. Set it down

Send hips back and lower the bell between your feet. Reset before the next repetition.

Keep in mind

  • Move your shoulders and hips together.
  • Finish upright with your ribs over your hips.

Watch out for

  • Rounding your back to reach the handle.
  • Leaning backward at the top or jerking the bell.
